Background
In its seventh year of operation, Muteesa I Royal University (MRU) stands out as one of Uganda’s fastest growing private Universities in Uganda. MRU is licensed by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education to support the growth and development of higher education and transformation of society. MRU has got 3 campuses in Masaka, Mubende and Kampala with an enrolment of 4,500 students currently running with four (4) faculties i.e. Faculty of Science and Technology, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Business and Management and Faculty of Social, Cultural and Development Studies.
 
MRU is committed to excellence in transforming learners and undertaking cutting edge in research. The commitment to excellence and rapid growth in enrolment in the past three years has been driving both technological innovation and ongoing recruitment of academic and support staff. These growth trends are expected to cause an enrolment of 30,000 by 2019. 
 
MRU is growing both in size and in reputation with vision of becoming one of the world-leading universities in the region. This will have benefits not only for the surrounding community and region but also for the nation as a whole. Universities are the engines of growth.

Expansion Plans
o Plans are under way to start a teaching hospital Masaka that will help the university to teach health related courses. 
o Revamping and equipping of the teaching facilities for the hotel and hospitality students
o We are putting in place innovation hubs that will be supported by a research grant to facilitate innovations among our students, entrepreneurs and the community.
o We are attracting Visiting Professors to help us re-align our curriculum and provide any necessary support towards skill based curriculum.
o Operationalise collaboration with DATIC Agricultural Training Center in Kyotera, Rakai District in order to run skill based agricultural disciplines at MRU. This will benefit the country, Buganda and the Greater Masaka region.
o Start postgraduate programmes
o Run joint staff programmes with other universities
o Run student and staff exchange with other universities.
 
Infrastructural development
 
o The university has plans to improve on its existing buildings and also put up new structures with the state of the art modern lecture halls which will accommodate the increasing students population
o To set up a modern Radio and Television Station at the two university campuses for the students  
o To setup a sports complex to identify and promote young people’s talents as well as acting as a source of revenue for the University.
Research 
o Bringing on board visiting professors to support doctoral studies, research and publications
o Encourage collaborative research projects with other universities. Soon the university will embark on revamping and equipping of the teaching facilities for the hotel and hospitality students. 
o Skill based education reaching out to the people in the community
Areas of Operation
Muteesa I Royal University operates two Campuses in Uganda. The main Campus is located at Kirumba- Masaka and the second campus is at Kakeeka-Mengo. The university has study centres in Kayunga district and Buweekula –Mubende district.
