Muteesa I Royal University was much honored to host the Annual Mother Tongues Conference. The conference that kicked off on the morning of 13th of October at Kakeeka campus in the University Library was organised by the Reading Council for Central Uganda in coordination with Buganda kingdom's Ministry of Education.
The event was officially opened by the Rubaga Division Mayor Owekitiibwa Joyce Nabossa Ssebugwawo who with other delegates to the conference were welcomed by the University's Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor I.N.M Kigongo Bukenya.
Professor Kigongo in his remarks thanked Owek. Ssebugwawo for as the area leader engaging on the tarmacking of the road that passes by the university to connect with Rubaga hill.
He also shared with delegates a scenario that happened to him a long time ago when his mother visited him and found him with a toddler son who couldn’t speak Luganda, yet his mother the toddler's grandmother only knew Luganda. He said he henceforth till today decided that his children and grandchildren would have to speak their mother tongue.
The event ended on 14th October, 2016 at 5:00 PM.
